Each winter, I like to spend some time visiting museums throughout the region. On a recent trip, I thought about how there is significant commonality between museums and libraries. Both collect materials and objects of cultural, religious and historic importance, and make them available to our students and the public for educational purposes and enjoyment. We share a common purpose of promoting and supporting the campus priority of engagement and service.

In this edition of the Library Update newsletter, we pay special attention to the relationship between libraries and museums. In My Library Story we meet Corinna Ripps Schaming, Director and Chief Curator of the University Art Museum. We also learn about the Libros/Arte exhibition, a multidisciplinary project worked on by the Libraries, Museum, and several academic departments. 

Insight into Diversity magazine also cited the Libros/Arte exhibition in their decision to name the University Libraries a recipient of the inaugural Library Excellence in Access and Diversity Award. This award reflects our commitment to provide services and resources that support our communities equitably, and foster belonging.
